DP&L IN NEW CARGO LINER AGENCY VENTURE

The Dundee, Perth & London Shipping Company, one of Dundee’s oldest companies, has announced a new business venture into the field of cargo liner agency. The company has signed an agreement with John Good Shipping of Hull to act as their sole Scottish agent for cargo liner services to destinations which include Spain, Portugal, Morocco, the Canary Islands, South Africa and Thailand and also the Middle East, Far East and Poland. Liner agency involves the selling and booking of space on vessels plying regular routes to a fixed schedule. The principals include OPDR Hamburg, MACS Maritime Carriers Shipping, ANL Container Line and ESL Euroafrica Shipping Lines with sailings from all major UK ports. The agreement, which starts on 1st February, marks another new business direction for DP&L.

DP&L managing director, Mr Alasdair Chalmers commented, “We are very pleased to be forging a partnership with John Good Shipping. They are an old established company with a reputation that is second to none in the industry. Everyone is looking forward to a long and successful association.”

John Good managing director, Mr John Rutherford said “The service standards and business outlook of DP&L are so similar to our own that we realised that this arrangement would be an excellent fit. We are companies with a proud tradition and history, but our approach is progressive. That is why we have both survived and prospered over so many years.”

John Good Shipping was established in 1833 and is one of the largest independent ship’s agency companies in the UK. Their experience in liner agency spans over 150 years and the firm is still family owned and run.

DP&L was founded in 1826 and had seen many changes over the years. In addition to its traditional shipping and cargo agency, group companies operate travel agencies and industrial supplies, marquee hire and personnel businesses. The company has been locally owned since 1993 when the boardroom came back north of the border after a buy-out from Anglo-United plc.
